The Engine Split Is the Real Trim Decision
Before you compare leather grades, settle the engine question. It is the line that actually divides this lineup.
For 2026 a four-cylinder powers the middle and upper Grand Cherokee trims, which would have sounded absurd a decade ago. The 2.0L Hurricane turbo makes 324 hp and 332 lb-ft, against 293 hp and 260 lb-ft from the 3.6L Pentastar V6 it replaces. It is the stronger engine and the more efficient one. The Laredo and Laredo X keep the V6. Everything from the Laredo Altitude up runs the Hurricane.
That split matters more around here than a spec sheet suggests. A Durham commute means NC-147 into the Durham Freeway, then either I-40 east toward Research Triangle Park or 15-501 south toward Chapel Hill. All of it is merge-and-hold driving, which is exactly where 332 lb-ft of torque low in the rev range earns its keep. The V6 does the job. The Hurricane does it without you thinking about it.
What every trim shares
Whichever badge you land on, you get 37.7 cu ft of cargo space behind the rear seats and 70.8 cu ft with them folded, up to 6,200 lbs of towing when properly equipped, seating for five, and the full standard safety suite. Trim level changes comfort, materials and drivetrain hardware. It does not change what the Grand Cherokee can carry or pull.
The three-row version is a separate model. If you need seven seats, look at the Grand Cherokee L, which shares these engines and adds 11.4 inches of length.

1. Do you want the Hurricane turbo?
It makes 31 more horsepower and 72 more lb-ft than the V6 while rating better on fuel. There is no trade-off to weigh here. The only question is where it starts.

The three Laredo trims are offered in rear-wheel drive or 4x4. From the Limited up, 4x4 is standard. Triangle winters are mild until the one January morning they are not, and the ramps off NC-147 ice first.

The Limited is where the cabin genuinely changes: heated front and rear seats, heated wheel, real leather. Limited Reserve adds Nappa leather and the dual-pane roof. Summit is where McIntosh audio and air suspension live.

Seven for 2026: Laredo, Laredo X, Laredo Altitude, Limited, 85th Anniversary Edition, Limited Reserve and Summit. The Laredo trims run the 3.6L Pentastar V6. Everything from the Laredo Altitude up runs the 2.0L Hurricane turbo four-cylinder.
What is the difference between the Laredo and the Laredo X?
The Laredo X is a comfort package on the same mechanical car. It adds a panoramic sunroof, heated front seats, rain-sensing wipers and a power liftgate. The engine, drivetrain options, towing and cargo numbers are identical to the Laredo.
Which Grand Cherokee trim is the best value?
The Laredo Altitude, for most buyers. It is the first trim to get the Hurricane turbo engine and the 12.3-inch Uconnect 5 screen, which are the two upgrades people notice every single day. Trims above it add comfort and materials rather than capability.
Which Grand Cherokee trims come with 4x4 standard?
The Limited, 85th Anniversary Edition, Limited Reserve and Summit all have 4x4 as standard equipment. The Laredo, Laredo X and Laredo Altitude are offered in either rear-wheel drive or 4x4. If you drive US 15-501 or NC-147 through a Triangle ice morning, the 4x4 is worth the roughly 1 MPG it costs you.
What is the 85th Anniversary Edition Grand Cherokee?
It marks 85 years of the Jeep brand. Mechanically it sits alongside the Limited, with the 2.0L Hurricane turbo and Quadra-Trac I 4x4 standard, and adds anniversary badging, a liftgate decal, exterior accents, berber floor mats, a sunroof, surround-view and off-road cameras, and ParkSense front and rear park assist.
Does the 2026 Grand Cherokee still offer a V8 or the 4xe plug-in hybrid?
No to both. The 5.7L HEMI V8 is not offered for 2026, and Stellantis ended the 4xe plug-in hybrid program for the same model year. The two engines available now are the 3.6L Pentastar V6 and the 2.0L Hurricane turbo four-cylinder.

What is the difference between Quadra-Trac I and Quadra-Drive II?
Quadra-Trac I is a full-time 4x4 system that needs no driver input and handles wet pavement, gravel and snow without complaint. Quadra-Drive II, standard on the Summit, adds an electronic limited-slip rear differential that actively sends torque to the wheel with grip. Quadra-Drive II matters off pavement. On a Durham commute you will not feel the difference.
